The following are averages based on 87 Canadian audiologist responses.

Salary Increases as Reported:

Audiologists were asked which of the following increases they received in 2024: promotion, cost of living increase, raise 3-5%, raise 5-10%, raise >10%, or new job. I wanted to explore growth potential within our field, and how it is typically acquired.

Overall Findings for 2024 Canadian Audiologists

Let’s take a look at the average base salary in Canada. This salary is not including bonus or commission, and I have excluded private practice owners from this calculation, as practice owner responses tend to trend higher than employees.

Average base salary (excluding private practice owners): $99,151

Breakdown by Setting

Survey responses collected were broken down by their primary workplace setting. Unfortunately many settings had so few responses, it is difficult to provide an accurate “average salary by setting” calculation, as there is potential for bias and skew. Overall, Canadian audiologists are primarily employed by private practices, and retail practice settings.

Canadian Audiologist Education Level

The Master’s degree is the minimum requirement to practice as an audiologist across most of Canada. Some audiologists choose to pursue a Ph.D. concurrently with their master’s or after. Others pursue a doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program internationally, or complete a master’s degree and then an online Au.D. upgrade program.

The following data includes private practice owner responses. These averages also include base salary, commission and bonus.

Average Canadian audiologist reported income (salary + bonus & commission): $110,478

Average income with PhD (n=2): $163,000

Average income with Master’s (n=65): $109,927

Average income with AuD (n=20) : $112,539

Income by Gender

The following averages include private practice owners, all education levels, commission & bonus.

Average female income (n= 75): $111,041

Average male income (n=11): $119,136

Please keep in mind that responses are voluntary and may contain misinformation or bias. The survey included multiple recheck questions to ensure income responses were entered correctly without typos.

There are many factors as to how the information can break down or be influenced. Feel free to discuss in the comments below. I hope this information is valuable in your next salary negotiation or job hunt! - XO
